Don't be a marketing magpie...

I must admit, I do like shiny things….diamonds for example are one of my best friends according to Marilyn….but sometimes you need to stop becoming distracted by the latest new shiny thing and keep a focus on your key marketing objectives.

If you have taken the time to step back from your business and decide what your marketing objectives are, then why would you get distracted only weeks later? Well it is probably because you are human but it is worth catching yourself every so often.

Marketing is a long term marathon, not a sprint so if you have made a commitment to do something, be patient and the results will follow. Be this networking, emails, direct mail, SEO, telemarketing, PR, social media….whatever. A bit of focus, a dash of perseverance and a whole splash of consistency will work wonders.

The moral of the story is this…

Shiny things are great and should certainly be part of the marketing mix but don't throw the marketing baby out with the bath water. Stick at whatever you have committed to try for a bit longer. You owe it to your business.
